Killwood is a sustainable lifestyle goods company I cofounded in 2015. Killwood crafts sustainable products with pine beetle kill wood from trees that have been plagued by the pine beetle epidemic. By upcycling waste materials, and contributing to reforestation, Killwood is leading the movement to restore BC forests utilizing eco design.
Building Killwood from the ground up, I designed the trademark, business cards, website, and our first product to launch on Kickstarter. Along with two other products, and the entire brand identity, Killwood needed to establish itself and entice a customer base of eco-minded people that appreciate modern, minimalist design.
As the Product and Graphic Designer at Killwood, leading the product and branding design, including social media presence, web, email marketing, I asked myself, how can we get people excited about the redemption story of pine beetle devastation to eco design creation? www.killwood.ca
The logo is a distilled and minimalist interpretation of a beetle's shell and wings, celebrating the company's unique use of Pine Beetle Kill Wood. The logo is designed to convey Killwood's key brand attributes:
MINIMALIST FRIENDLY ELEGANT
The logotype is a font, with a flourish - it's sleek, modern, and is thematically linked with the logo mark. The shape of the "K" is reflected in the negative space of the Killwood mark, creating a cohesive logo.
